Electro-Motive Diesel (EMD) is owned by Caterpillar through its wholly owned subsidiary Progress Rail Services Corporation. The company designs, manufactures and sells diesel-electric locomotives and diesel power engines under the Electro-Motive Diesel brand. EMD offers an extensive range of locomotive products in the rail industry. EMD traces its roots to the Electro-Motive Engineering Corporation, founded in 1922. In 2010 EMD held approximately 30 percent of the market for diesel-electric locomotives in North America.

EMD also provides maintenance services, technical support, parts inventory, and sales and marketing services from many other locations spread throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, China, India, Pakistan, Australia, Germany, Switzerland, Brazil, Egypt, and South Africa. EMD have a long history in the middle east since 1960s and 90% of the operating locomotives in the middle east and north Africa have been supplied by EMD.

ARC and EMD, have established a partnership to provide maintenance and after sales services for EMD products, with a view to establishing a centre of excellence to promote knowledge transfer to our client. The partnership between ARC and EMD offers a full range of features and technologies to deliver locomotives that meet specific customer requirements – with the performance, reliability and lifecycle services that our customers demand.

ARC and EMD have successfully provide SRO and SAR with their requirements for locomotive and switchers in the last few years and are working closely with both organizations to ensure the continuous operations of EMD products and ensure that any future requirements are addressed and the necessary support is provided in a timely manner .

ARC has exclusive representation rights for EMD products in Saudi Arabia.
